John H. (Jack) Sollars, 90, of Bloomingburg, Ohio passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family and the comfort of Hospice of Fayette County nurse, Nancy Bennett, at 2:18 a.m. Sunday, March 17, 2013. He had been in failing health.
He was born October 2, 1922, in Bloomingburg, Ohio to Don J. and Martha Eckle Sollars. He was a 1940 graduate of Bloomingburg High School and was a lifelong resident of the Bloomingburg community.
Jack was a former farmer and employed at Armco, Inc. for 33 1/2 years, retiring in 1984. He served on the Bloomingburg Village Council for nine years; was clerk of Paint Township from 1965-1992; was zoning inspector for Paint, Marion and Wayne Townships for several years and formerly was a member of the Trustees and Clerks Association.
He was a member and elder of the Bloomingburg Presbyterian Church where he had served as trustee and Sunday school superintendent and was Clerk of Session from 1968-1989. He was a member of Bloomingburg Lodge #449, F & AM; 32nd Degree Masons, Valley of Columbus; Aladdin Temple Shrine and the Washington Shrine Club. He coached Babe Ruth baseball and was a Boy Scout leader for several years and had been a member of the Bloomingburg Lions Club. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard and was a member of the Coast Guard Combat Veterans Association and Paul H. Hughey Post #25 of the American Legion.
Jack is survived by his wife, the former Helen Minshall, whom he married September 11, 1947; three children, Rebecca Sollars of Bloomingburg; Jacqueline Jones and her husband, Robert, of Bloomingburg and Michael Sollars and his wife, Marilynn, of Frankfort, Ohio; two grandsons, Jon Jones and his wife, Taylor, of Washington Court House and Brett Sollars of Frankfort and a sister, Pat Scott of Bloomingburg.
The funeral will be Thursday, March 21, 2013, at 11 a.m. at the Bloomingburg Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Randy Terry, pastor at the church, officiating. A Masonic service will be held immediately prior to the funeral. Burial will follow in the Bloomingburg Cemetery.
Friends may call at the church from 9 a.m. Thursday until time of the service.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in Washington Court House.
