William Alan Mason, 83, of Washington Court House, Ohio died Saturday, February 2, 2013, at 3:18 a.m. at the Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital in Columbus where he had been admitted several hours earlier.
He was born November 6, 1929 at Bowersville in Greene Co., Ohio to John Bevin and Helen Elizabeth Grandle Mason. He was a 1948 graduate of Xenia High School and attended the University of Dayton. He lived most of his life in Greene and Fayette Counties.
Before his retirement in 1986, he was the WIN program coordinator with Job Service of Ohio. He had also been an agent for the Western and Southern Life Insurance Company.
He was a member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church; was member, past president, secretary, treasurer and zone chairman of the Good Hope Lions Club and worked many hours in the Lions Candy Store. He was a Melvin Jones Fellow of Lions International and a Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict.
Mr. Mason was preceded in death by a daughter, Kim Whited in 2003.
He is survived by his wife, the former Beverly Jean Forrest whom he married July 19, 1952; two daughters, Lyn Rodgers of Washington Court House and Kathy Mason of Frankfort and her special friend, Ron Beedy; six grandchildren, Kristal Whited and her special friend, Charles Caton, Amber Nester and her husband, Dave, Mathew Rodgers and his wife, Sarah, Rebel Mason and her special friend, Kurt Woodford, Ryan Rodgers and Raven Gwilliam; two great grandchildren, Tiegan and Scarlett Rodgers and a sister, Beverly Ann Smith and her special friend, Ron Mussetter, of Xenia, Ohio.
The funeral will be Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at 6 p.m. at the Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in Washington Court House with the Rev. James A. Kiger, Jr., officiating. A Lions Club service will be held immediately following the funeral. Cremation will follow.
Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday from 4 p.m. until the time of the service.
