ROGER LYNN WALTERS, age 61, of Washington CH, husband and best friend of 21 years to Nancy Penwell Walters, who passed away on Sunday, January 27, 2013 at his home. He had courageously fought a three year battle with cancer while maintaining his positive outlook and faith throughout this difficult time.
Roger was a lifelong resident of Fayette County where he graduated from Miami Trace High School in 1969. He had attended the Heritage Memorial Church. Since 1972, he had worked in the plastic manufacturing industry in which he was the production supervisor of the Thatcher Tube and Calmar. He was an avid sports fan and had been a tri-county New Holland baseball coach, score keeper and served as commissioner. He loved helping kids learn the game and improve their skills. Roger enjoyed attending the Miami Trace sports events and attending livestock shows at the Fayette County Fair.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Weldon and Erma Mae Ater Walters, one brother at infancy, Rodney.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Nancy Walters, his children Craig (Andrea) Walters of Frankfort, Scott Walters of Mt. Sterling, Holly (Chadd) Roush of New Holland and Tony (Angie) Craig of Milledgeville; Nancy’s children Mary Jo Dement, Tracy Malott and Doug (Cheri) Penwell all of Washington CH; grandchildren Jesse, Kasey and Hayden Walters, Hunter Roush, Taryn Eggleton, Cody Malott, Colt, Caleb and Caden Penwell, Conner Dement and Shannon Garringer; great-grandchildren Tyler and Tanner Eggleton, Jalyn May, Westyn Harris and Champ Walters; siblings Mike Walters of New Holland and David Walters of Howard as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
The funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 31, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Summers Funeral Home with John Ater and Mell Wickenseimer officiating with burial to follow at the Sugar Grove Baptist Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 5-8 p.m.
