Mabel A. Cannon, passed away on January 11, 2013 at Carriage Court Assisted Living in Washington C.H., Ohio. She was born September 11, 1917 to Rodney W. and Anna Grace Smith Reno in Ladd, Ohio. She married John Urban Cannon on February 25, 1938 in Milledgeville where the couple raised a family and farmed in Jefferson Township.
Mrs. Cannon was valedictorian of her class at Reesville High School. She earned her teaching certificate from Wilmington College and taught elementary school in Adams and Fayette counties. She was a member of the Midway Presbyterian Church in Sedalia, a member of Grace United Methodist Church, the Washington C.H. DAR Chapter, G.A.R., Marshall Grange, Fay. Co. Extension Service Homemakers Club, a 4-H Club Advisor, Farm Bureau Women, and lifetime member of the Fayette County Farm Bureau.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John, in 1992, two sisters, Lucille Benton and Florence Reno and one brother, Glenn Reno.
She is survived by four children: Nancy Joyce (Joseph) Fodi of Naples, Florida; Patricia (Frank) Willingham of Virginia; Jonna (Duane) Smith of Bowling Green, KY; John C. (Lynda) Cannon of Ashland, KY, ten grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Mabel enjoyed creating recipes and entering cooking/baking contests with her daughters, traveling abroad, and collecting and selling antiques and dolls. She exhibited at the Washington C.H and Springfield flea markets for many years.
Visitation with the family will be held at the Morrow Funeral Home in Jeffersonville on Friday, January 25, 2013 from 11am-1pm. A graveside service will follow at 1pm in the Fairview Cemetery with Mel Wickensimer officiating. In keeping with her wishes, cremation has been observed. Memorial contributions may be made in care of Heartland Hospice.
