David Morgan Long, 81, of New Holland, Ohio died Wednesday, December 26, 2012 at his home. His death was sudden and unexpected.
David was born October 11, 1931 in Madison County, Ohio to (William) Homer and Alma Morgan Long. He was a 1949 graduate of Atlanta High School and lived most of his life in Pickaway County.
He was formerly a manager at the Atlanta Grain Company and sales manager for Hill Implement Company in Circleville. Before his retirement in 2001 he was branch manager at The Savings Bank in Williamsport.
Mr. Long was a member of the Atlanta United Methodist Church; Heber Lodge F & AM #501 in Williamsport; 32nd Degree Masons, Valley of Columbus; Aladdin Temple Shrine in Columbus; Sterling Chapter # 74 of the Order of the Eastern Star in Mt. Sterling. He served 17 years on the Board of Education of the Westfall Local School District and was a member and past president of the Westfall Boosters Club. He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and was a member of Johnson-Minor Post #618 of the American Legion in Williamsport.
David was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, William E. Long and a sister and brother-in-law, Alma Jean and Don Adams.
He is survived by his wife, the former Rita Ater whom he married November 27, 1951; three children and their spouses, Kimberly and Mark Davey of New Holland, Jill and Scott Riddle of Circleville and Stephen A. and Mindy Long of Dallas, Texas; four grandchildren, Katie Parker of New Holland, Sandy (Michael) Ball of Hilliard, Nick (Stephanie) Davey of Washington Court House and Valerie Long of Dallas; three great grandchildren, Grace Johnson, Emma Parker and Owen Ball; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Carl and Ruth Long of Williamsport, Darrell and Carol Long of Harrisburg, NC and Charles and Jeanine Long of Columbus; a sister-in-law, Vallie Long of Oxford, Ohio and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Saturday, December 29, 2012 at 1 p.m. at the Atlanta United Methodist Church with the Rev. Malcolm Buck, pastor at the church, officiating. Burial will follow in the New Holland Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in Washington Court House on Friday from 4-8 p.m. where a Masonic service will be held Friday at 8 p.m.
