Richard Allen McCane, 47 of West Union, Ohio, died Sunday, Dec. 22, 2012 at Southern Ohio Medical Center Hospice Center in Portsmouth. He was born Nov. 11, 1965 in Cincinnati. He was preceded in death by parents, William and Margaret Ann (Dreyling) McCane; wife, Catherine H. McCane; and son, Michael J. Ross.
He is survived by companion, Jillie McCane of West Union; son, Joseph C.V. McCane of Blue Ash; daughter, Ericha A. (Daniel) Moore of Cincinnati; one companion daughter, Diana Adkins of Portsmouth; three brothers: Ron McCane of Cincinnat, John McCane of Loveland, and Ken McCane of West Chester.
He was a Firefighter, Paramedic, E.M.T.-Basic, Police Dispatcher, Mobile Examiner, Communications Office, Clerk Dispatcher, and StatLine Operator.
He was a 1984 graduate of Forest Park High School and a graduate of Scarlet Oaks C.D.C. in Sharonville. He was a volunteer for Readin Fire dept., Lockland Fire Dept., Wyoming Life Squad in West Portsmouth; Peebles and Seaman Life Squad, and Monroe Twp. Fire Dept., all of Adams County. He was an amateur radio enthusiast with the call sign "K8IG" and was a member of the DeForest Amateur Radio Club; Skywarn; OH-KY-IN Amateur Radio Society; and Dayton Amateur Radio Association, Inc. He was a lifetime member of the N.R.A.

A memorial sercice is Friday, Dec. 28, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Lafferty Funeral Home in West Union.
The visitation is Thursday from 6 - 9 p.m.
Mr. McCane will be cremated and his cremains will be scattered in Lake Erie at the convenience of the family.
