CHARLES EUGENE ‘GENE’ DIXON, age 86, of Greenfield, passed away on Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at Hospice Home in Englewood, Florida.
He was born on September 28, 1926 in Columbus to Cecil E. and Katherine Perry Dixon. He retired from Armco Steel after 30 years of service. He was a US Navy veteran during World War II and also a US Army Korean Conflict veteran.
He was a 1945 graduate of Wayne High School, a member of the Good Hope United Methodist Church, American Legion Post #25. Cecil and his wife Zella, owned and operated the Dixon Clothing and Grocery Store of Good Hope. Together they enjoyed flea markets and going to yard sales.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Zella M. Hatfield Dixon, grandson Kevin Newland and Aunt Marie Dixon.
Survivors include his daughters Judy (Jim) Kramer of Florida and Linda Lou (Edwin) Newland of Greenfield; grandchildren Randy (Carrie) Boyer, Guy Boyer and Scott Boyer, Kathy Marsh, Mark Newland and Mendy Newland Smith; 13 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 4, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the Summers Funeral Home with Jon Cook officiating with burial to follow at the Good Hope Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 5-8 p.m.
