An early morning incident Monday led to a couple of people being arrested in Hillsboro.
Hillsboro Police arrested two people after an incident early Monday at the North High Street Speedway Gas Station.
An officer made a traffic stop with the assistance of the Highland County Sheriff Department. The K-9 Unit detected possible presence of narcotics, which led to a search inside the car, where a loaded pistol was recovered. When the driver and passenger were searched, 40-year-old James Rust of US Route 50 Hillsboro became combative as he fought with the officers.
At that point, Rust tried to eat small packages of white powder, which followed by his being placed under arrest, along with passenger 54-year-old Arbie Bowen of Kayrean Plaza, Hillsboro.
Bowen was charged with carrying a concealed weapon, while Rust was charged with Resisting Arrest, Tampering with Evidence, Drug Abuse Instrument, and having a firearm under disability. Further drug charges are pending results from testing at BCI.
