Reports of a casino going in the former K-Mart have been floated.

Washington City Council addressed concerns they have been hearing about reports of a casino being located in town. Melissa Upthegrove of Washington CH asked city officials about concerns of reports of a casino going into the old K-Mart Building.

Several council members also express that they too had heard that report, but City Manager Denen reported that several businesses have inquired about the building but that the owners of the facility were not interested in any lease options for those inquiries at this time.

The Washington City Council also heard several reports about adopting a resolution to have City Manager Joe Denen to proceed in applying for a grant from the Naturework Fund.

The council also heard first readings on several resolutions including entering into an agreement with the Fayette County Commissioners to provide legal counsel for indigent persons, appoint Vickie Lynch to the Carnegie Public Library Board of Trustees, resolution of appreciation to David Fabb for over 30 years of public service while serving on several local boards including the Board of Zoning Appeals for City of Washington Court House & a cooperation resolution between the Director of the Ohio Department of Transportation & the City of Washington Court House.

That final resolution is required by the Ohio Revised Code that simple states in writing that the share of funds that the City has received for the Leesburg Avenue project from government grants will go to the project. City of Washington has received as their share of the project from three different grants almost $1.3 million.

Also it was reported to council that the 24th annual Great Ohio Bicycle Adventure will be stopping in Washington  Court House in June. The tour will start in Hillsboro on Saturday June 16th at the Highland County Fairgrounds. Then the next day travel to Chillicothe, before moving on Tuesday June 19th to Ashville before heading into Washington Court House on Wednesday June 20th.

After a layover day on Thursday June 21st the tour will then travel to London & Wilmington before ending up in Hillsboro on Saturday June 23rd.
