Man arrested after fight with police officer
A mobile meth lab was found in Greenfield Wednesday.
An officer stopped a vehicle on S. Washington St., in Greenfield. The vehicle was checked with a K9 unit The dog indicated the presence of narcotics.
The driver, Jon Wright, 31, of Greenfield, and passenger Christopher Jenkins, 34, of Greenfield, exited the vehicle and stood on the sidewalk. with Jenkins holding his three year old son in his arms.
The officer found drug paraphernalia Inside the vehicle.
While searching Jenkins, the officer located a bottle inside his jacket pocket containing a substance that appeared to be actively cooking methamphetamine, known as a mobile meth lab. Still holding the child, Jenkins began resisting the officer. The officer attempted to control Jenkins, who then put the child down and starting fighting with the officer.
Jenkins struck the officer in the face, causing injury to him, and then fled across the street, leaving the child behind.
Jenkins struck the officer again when he caught up to Jenkins. The driver, Jon Wright, was arrested by other responding officers for fictitious tags, possession of drug paraphernalia, and obstructing official business. Jenkins was charged with felony assault on a peace officer. Additional charges are likely after the evidence is analyzed.
Both men will appear in Highland County Court, Greenfield, on Friday. The child was released to his mother by Highland County Children Services.
