Supplies are down well below what is needed.
With area blood supplies at critically low levels, the American Red Cross is desperately seeking donors.
The minimum amount of blood needed each day in Central Ohio to support 41 area hospitals is 830 units of blood. Right now the local Red Cross has fewer than 250 units which keeps them from filling requests.
Blood donations of all types are needed but the greatest include O-negative, A-negative, B-negative, O-positive and A-positive.
In an effort to fill the demand, the Red Cross is adding some extra incentive to entice donors.
Those who come to give blood in October can enter a drawing to win a pair of tickets to an OSU home football game, and also enter to win a weekend getaway to Hocking Hills with a zip line tour.
The next local blood drive will be held at the Grace United Methodist Church today from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., walk-ins are welcome upon availability.
