Turkey numbers may be down

Turkey hunters may not bag as many birds this when Ohio fall turkey season opens this Saturday, October 8th. According to Wildlife Biologist Mike Reynolds, record rainfall and regional flooding during the nesting season negatively affected wild turket production this year. Reynolds said brood production in two of the last three years has been the lowest on record.

Hunters harvest 1425 wild turkeys during last year's fall season. Ohio's wild turkey population is around 180 thousand. Reynolds anticipates as many as 15 thousand people, not counting private landowners hunting on their own prperty, will participate in Ohio's fall wild turkey season.
