Residents within one half mile of the crash scene were evacuated as a precaution
The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office responded to a hazardous materials traffic crash that occurred at the intersection of US Route 62 and Miami Trace Road in Green Township.
Sheriff Vernon Stanforth reported that Mark Gill of Xenia, Ohio was operating a 2014 Freightliner semi tractor and cargo tank containing propane, traveling southbound on US 62 and initiated a right turn onto Miami Trace Road when the wheels to the cargo tank went off the roadway causing the vehicle and tanker to overturn.
Members of the Concord-Green Fire Department, Fayette County Emergency Management Agency (EMA), and the Sheriff’s Rescue Unit all responded to the scene.
Residents within one half mile of the crash scene were evacuated by deputies and fire personnel as a precaution, however, no hazardous materials spill was reported from the tanker.
No injuries were reported. "Intersecting roadways from US 62 and Miami Trace Road were closed by the Ohio Department of Transportation and the Fayette County Engineer’s Office and remained closed during the overnight hours while personnel removed the overturned tanker and cleared the scene", said Sheriff Stanforth.
Gill was cited for Failure to Control.
