Dr Gay died during a procedure at a Columbus hospital

Fayette County Coroner Dr. Albert Gay died unexpectedly Wednesday.

According to Fayette County Sheriff Vernon Stanforth, Dr. Gay was undergoing a procedure at a Columbus hospital and did not survive.

Dr. Gay served many families in the area as a general practitioner before becoming becoming a hospitalist for Fayette County Memorial Hospital. Deputy Coroner Dr. Lenora Fenton will serve as acting coroner until the Republican central committee meets to appoint a new coroner.

Whomever is appointed by the Central Committee will serve until the 2014 general election.
