Hillsboro City Council heard about street repair, employee contract negotiations and the city's ongoing drug problems during their Monday night meeting.

Safety Service Director Richard Giroux informed council of new street repair equipment that has just arrived. He stated that the Duro Patch machine will greatly reduce the pothole problem in the city.

Most of the meeting was taken up by Mayor Drew Hastings, which included Hastings reporting that the negotiations with both the F.O.P. and I.F.F. were ongoing. He stated that things were closer with the police union than they were with the fire union.

The mayor also expressed his concern with the drug "epidemic" in Hillsboro. Hastings asked council to consider legislation changing the way scrap metal was sold, which he believes will curb much of the crime being committed in the city.
