Three people were injured, two seriously, in a three vehicle crash that occurred on US 62 NE in Fayette County early Tuesday evening.
The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating a three-car injury traffic crash on U.S. #62 NE, just north of Washington-Waterloo Road in Union Township. The crash, hospitalizing drivers from all three vehicles, was reported on 01/22/2013 at 5:26 p.m.
According to Sheriff Vernon Stanforth, a 1998 GMC Sonoma pickup truck, operated by Sabrina S. Kelly, Age 19 of Columbus, Ohio was traveling north on U.S. #62 NE and traveled left of center into the southbound lane. The Kelly vehicle sideswiped a southbound 2011 Hyundai Sonata, operated by Brandy R. Stone, Age 40 of Mt. Sterling, Ohio and continued, colliding head-on with a second southbound vehicle, a 2010 Kia Sedona operated by Amy L. Joseph, Age 40 of Washington C.H., Ohio. Following the crash, all vehicles involved came to rest just off the west side of U.S. #62 NE.
Kelly and Joseph were extricated from their vehicles by rescue workers and treated at the scene by members of Fayette County E.M.S. before being airlifted to Columbus area hospitals with serious injuries. Stone was transported from the scene by Fayette County E.M.S. to Fayette County Memorial Hospital for treatment of her injuries. All vehicles involved in the crash sustained heavy damage and were towed from the scene.
In addition to Fayette County E.M.S., members of the Sheriff’s Rescue Unit and Washington Fire & Rescue responded and assisted at the scene. U.S. #62 NE remained closed for several hours while members of the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit conducted their investigation of the crash. The roadway re-opened approximately 8:15 p.m.
The crash remains under investigation.
