David A. Weller was arrested Tuesday afternoon.

A Washington Court House man is charged with a felony count of Possession of Methamphetamine following the discovery of a “meth lab” shortly after 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon at an apartment complex in the 400 block of Peddicord Avenue in northwest Washington Court House.

According the Sheriff Vernon Stanforth, deputies were aiding adult probation officers from Fayette County in a probation check of the residence when an “active” meth lab was discovered in one of the bedrooms of an apartment.  David A. Weller, Age 41 of 410 Peddicord Avenue (Apt B) in Washington C.H., Ohio was located inside the residence and arrested following the discovery of the lab. Weller is charged with Possession of Methamphetamine, a felony of the fifth degree, and is incarcerated in the Fayette County Jail.

“Deputies set up a perimeter for traffic diversion around the area and evacuated residents in adjacent apartments for their safety until the situation was contained”, said Stanforth.  Members of the Highland County Special Response Team, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), and Washington C.H. Fire Department all responded and assisted in evidence collection and the decontamination process.

The situation was under control, with the roadways re-opening and residents returning to their apartments around 7:45 p.m. Tuesday evening.  Weller is being held in lieu of bond and is scheduled to appear for an arraignment before the Washington Court House Municipal Court on Wednesday morning.

Deputies are continuing their investigation of the incident and additional charges in the matter are likely.
