City facing $240,000 in budget cuts

Hillsboro City Council tabled a resolution Monday night for nearly $240,000 in budget cuts for the rest of this year, due to some number crunching.

Mayor Drew Hastings wasn't pleased with the resolution to start with, because it cut about $40,000 from the City's Economic Development plan.

Safety and Service director Richard Giroux said that he also didn't like the cuts that will take place for this year, but knows they will be needed. He believes the future looks grim saying, "The City is looking at a million to a million and one deficit for 2013". Such a large deficit would force the City to make cuts four times larger than the amount they are facing this year.
