The Pickaway County Sheriff is investigating a one vehicle fatal bicycle accident.

The Pickaway County Sheriff Department is currently investigating a one vehicle fatal crash that involved a bicycle on Morris Salem Road at 10:20am Saturday morning.

Charlie Y. Shu,48, of Columbus, was traveling southbound on Morris Salem Road at what appeared to be a high rate of speed and was unable to negotiate a right curve in the roadway and traveled onto a bridge that crosses Scippo Creek. Mr. Shu traveled off the left side of the roadway striking the guardrail face causing the front wheel to be disconnected from the bicycle.

Mr. Shu was ejected over the front of the bicycle and struck the guardrail support I-beam causing massive head trauma. Mr. Shu was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Mr. Shu was pronounced dead at the scene by the Pickaway County Coroner.

Mr. Shu was a participant in the Steve Barber Memorial Bike Tour. The accident continues to be under investigation.
