South Central Power customers in the Petersburg area were being told of a two hour planned outage for repairs

Vandalism to equipment belonging to South Central Power Company is the cause of a planned two-hour service interruption to customers in the Petersburg area Monday.

Company officials says the outage was slated to begin at 9:30am, and could take up to a couple of hours to repair.

Vandals and thieves have made it a common practice to attempt to steal copper materials and other wire and metals from electric companies in recent years. A practice, that is very dangerous to the culprit, according to utility officials. Some people have been seriously injured and even killed due to electrocution from such practices.
