Council worked on nuisance properties
The Washington City Council adopted several pieces of legislation & completed their evening of work in under 20 minutes Wednesday night.
Council passed on third reading to adopt three ordinances dealing with authorizing City Manager Joe Denen to hire a private contractor to clean up property at three different locations in the city that has become a public nuisance & to collect the cost of the abatement work from the owners of those properties.
The properties are located at 106/108 West Paint Street, 110/112 West Paint Street & 213/215 East Temple Street.
The council also approved the appointment of Marie Carl to fill out an unexpired term on the City Tree Committee. Her term will end on December 31st, 2013.
Council approved the second reading of an ordinance that would approve the final draft amending the Solid Waste Management Plan of the Ross,Pickaway,Highland, Fayette Joint Solid Waste Management District.This can be officially adopted on third reading at the next council meeting.
Finally the Council heard the first reading on two resolutions. First would authorizing City Manager Joe Denen to file an application to the State of Ohio to participate in the Small Cities Community Development Block Grant Program (or Formula) and to accept the grant if its funded Second authorizes the city to enter into an agreement with Ohio Department of Transportation for purchase of bulk Highway Rock Salt.
It was stated that the city has to buy a minimum of 400 tons. With the mild weather this past winter city officials feel that with the amount still on hand that the minimum should be more than enough to purchase for winter later this year.
Two Councilmen--Ted Hawk & Gordon Davis were excused from the meeting & all votes cast were 5-0 on all measures.
