The Miami Trace Panthers Boys Basketball team making their first trip to the districts since 2004 defeated Logan Elm Thursday night 48-41 to go to next Thursday night Upper Bracket District Finals against Athens High School.
Miami Trace led 8-6 after the 1st quarter & expanded the lead to 24-13 at the half by holding Logan Elm to only 5 free throws in the period.
Braves though started to take advantage of the Panthers sloppy play in the 3rd period cutting the deficit to 32-26 after 3 quarters.
In the 3rd Miami Trace attempted only 8 field goal shots & committed 11 turnovers.
Braves finally tied the game at 38 each with about 3 minutes left wiping out a double digit deficit but couldn't take the lead after that as they missed at least 4 free throw attemots & Miami Trace made them pay for by converting on the Panthers end of the court.
Cedric Pettiford led the Panthers with 14 points, Blake Baldwin had 11, Trevor Smith with 9 & Jaron Brust added 8 points.
Trace was 10 of 16 from the free throw line & had 24 turnovers.
Logan Elm shot 25% from the field including 4 of 21 on three point shots.
Logan Thompson led the Braves with 15 points & Dillion Young had 11 points.
Miami Trace will play the Athen Bulldogs next Thursday after defeating Chillicothe 59-49. This was Athens first trip to the districts since 2000.
Cavs led by 13 at the half but the Bulldogs kept chipping away finally taking the led at 40-38 with about 5 minutes left in the game.


Among other area basketball teams:
Madison Plains defeated Fairbanks in the Central District with a 52-50 win. The Golden Eagles almost blew an 18 point lead wirh 3 minutes left in the game.

Ryne Davis led the team with 17 points. Stephen Liemiuex & Hunter Butin had 11 points each.

Golden Eagles move to the districts next Tuesday night at 6pm at Central Crossing where they meet 5th state rank team in Division 3 Bloom-Carroll. The Bulldogs defeated Liberty Union 82-18. 


London lost to Brookhaven Thursday night in Central District play 90-49. Red Raiders trailed 20-9 after 1st quarter but Brookhaven outscored them 32-8 in the 2nd quarter to roll to the sectional win.

Kyle Fisher & Zac Carey led the Red Raiders with 13 points each & finish the season at 11-13. 


GIRLS
Madison Plains girls blew an 8 point halftime lead being outscored 24-9 in the 2nd half & lost to Marion Pleasant 34-27. The big blow was a Pleasant 16-4 fourth period.

Kelsey Woodyard led the Lady Eagles with 8 points.


Clinton-Massie girls will play in the district finals Friday night at 9pm at Mason High School against Norwood.

Both schools have record setting seasons in wins for their schools as the SCOL Co-Champion Lady Falcons are 20-5 & Norwood is 21-4. Winner of the contest will move on to the Sweet 16.
