The Miami Trace Lady Panthers season ended at Ohio University in Athens Tuesday night in the Division 2 Southeastern Districts.
Miami Trace played out of sync for most of the contest shooting 20% from the field & committing 28 total turnovers.
Miami Trace took a 2-1 lead with the first field goal of the contest by Deidre McKay with 4:40 left in the opening period. Moments later Ashley Henry hit a 3 that put Trace up 5-1.
Fairfield Union finally got their first field goal on a jumper by Tara Glaze at the 2:20 mark making it 5-3.
McKay hit another 3 before Falcons hit a shot late in the quarter to make it 8-5 after 1 period.
Teams battled it close most of the 2nd period with at least 3 ties before Miami Trace took an 20-18-lead.
Lady Falcons then went on a 4-0 run in the last minute of the half & had a 24-20 halftime lead. At the time both teams had combined for 18 turnovers as neither squad were able to play to their best.
In the 3rd Miami Trace finally started cutting down on the turnovers but their poor shooting continued yet they went on a 7-0 run that gave them the lead of 27-24. They also held the Lady Falcons to only 2 free throws in the period & no field goals & Panthers led 27-26 going into the final period.
The Falcons finally got their offense untracked during the final 8 minutes of the game outscoring the Lady Panthers 20-5 & with the win advance to the regionals for first time since becoming a Division 2 school & the first time since the 2000-01 season when they lost to Eastern Brown in a Division 3 regional semi-final.
Fairfield Union will play Athens who upset state rank Jackson 45-44 Tuesday night. Teams will play next Tuesday at Zanesville at 8pm.
For Miami Trace Deidre McKay finished with 11 points, Brooklyn Baldwin had 6 points & Josie Cobb had 5 points.
Lady Falcons were led by Kyleigh Wyeth who had 12 points & Courtney Bernard had 11.
Miami Trace finished the season at 19-5 & Fairfield Union is now 21-4.
