WCH Lady Blue Lions Play Spoiler With Win Over Rival Miami Trace

The Lady Blue Lions of Washington CH prevented rival Miami Trace from winning the undisputed Frontier Athletic Conference Girls Basketball Championship with a 56-48 win Saturday, in front of a packed house at Washington Senior High School Gym. The Lady Panthers loss combined with a McClain 61-38 win at Hillsboro, allows the Lady Tigers to share the FAC crown with Miami Trace with (8-2) records.

Washington led most of the game, finding themselves down only once at 34-31 midway through the third quarter, before Lady Blue Lions Shawna Conger drilled a three-pointer to tie the score at 34-34. From there, WCH took off for a 43-37 lead after three periods. Washington CH led after each stop in the game: 14-10, 27-25, 43-37 and 56-48.

Shawna Conger led Washington CH with 20 points while Jeleeya Tyree-Smith added 17. Miami Trace saw Shaylee McDonald fire-in 20 points with Magarah Bloom added 12.

Washington CH was 21/51 from the field for 41%- including 6/14 from behind the arc. They added 10/16 at the foul line and committed only 9 turnovers.

Miami Trace was 17/50 for 34%- including 5/14 from the arc and 9/15 at the foul line. The Lady Panthers committed 14 turnovers.

Miami Trace concludes the regular season at (8-2/16-6) and Washington CH is (11-10) overall, with both teams headed to the sectional finals Saturday, February 15th at Adena High School. Miami Trace will play Waverly at noon, followed by Washington CH vs Fairfield Union at 1:45pm. Both games will be broadcast on Buckeye Country 105.5FM (WCHO-FM) and worldwide on our free iHeart Radio app.
