Margery R. Speakman, 87, of Washington Court House, died at 11:37 p.m. on Friday, January 19, 2018, at Fayette County Memorial Hospital. She was born on March 9, 1930 in Ross County, the daughter of the late Rufus and Geraldine Buchanan Riehle. On March 18, 1951, she married Maynard E. Speakman, who preceded her in death on June 18, 1999.
She is survived by one daughter, Mary Beth Lightle of Chillicothe, two grandchildren, Lisa Lightle of Orient OH, and Mark (Lindsey) Lightle of Chillicothe, one sister-in-law, Maribel Mace, one brother-in-law, Calvin Peterson, several nieces, nephews, many friends, and her caregiver, Sue Raypole. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Martha Ann Speakman, one son-in-law, Brad Lightle, four sisters, Jane (Jim) Willis, Margaret (Eugene) Mace, Mildred Orr, and Ruth Ann Peterson, and one brother, Alfred Riehle.
Margery was a 1948 graduate of Unioto High School, where she graduated as Valedictorian. She worked for Armco and the Clarksburg Commercial Bank, and retired as a manager from Armco Credit Union. Margery was proud to be a retired farmer’s wife. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of WCH and a former member of the Clarksburg United Methodist Church. She was an active supporter of her grandchildren’s many activities. She was a former member of the New Holland Order of Eastern Star, and was a member of the Clarksburg Evening Farmer’s Club. Margery was an active member of Court House Fitness and enjoyed swimming there. She also enjoyed playing cards with her family and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, January 24, 2018 in the EBRIGHT FUNERAL HOME, Frankfort, with Pastor Joe Current officiating. Burial will follow in Brown’s Chapel Cemetery, Clarksburg.
