Marie Lavone Burr Stires

Marie Lavone Burr Stires ,74, passed away Friday, December 8, at Miami Valley Hospital with her family by her side. Marie was born November 14, 1943, in the home of her parents, in Jefferson Township, Ohio, to the late Alfred and Alice (Swaney) Burr.

Marie was preceded in death by her twin infant sons, Eric and Scott Stires, and older sister Gwendolyn Sams.

In 1961, Marie graduated from Jeffersonville High School and the Frederick’s Academy of Beauty Culture of Springfield, Ohio in January of 1962.   Soon after graduating, she fell in love with Fred Stires, beginning a marriage full of love and laughter that lasted 55 years. In 1976, Marie began working for the Village of Jeffersonville as the Village Treasurer and the Utilities Clerk.   She enjoyed working with the public in the 31 years of devoted service to Jeffersonville, working alongside her best friend, Carol Roush, and the late Marge Flax.

Marie’s family enjoyed her sense of humor, ability to tell a story, to shop until you drop and the ability to teach, love, and bring light into everyone’s day and life.  Family was the joy of her life and watching her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren grow was the source of great pride. The smile on her face, the laughter in the room and the twinkle in her eye will be greatly missed.

Marie is survived by her husband, Fred Stires; daughters, Angela (Roger Binegar) Beechler, and Carol (Bill) Benedict; five grandchildren, Michael (Chelsie) Beechler, Jacob (Mekena Mason) Beechler, Jordan (Kaitlyn Taylor) Beechler, Blake (Jessica) Benedict, and Brett Benedict; great-grandchildren, Braydon, Jaxon, and Maddison Benedict, and Marlie and Nico Beechler; special niece and nephew, Chris and Sarah Stires; Brother-in-law, Tommy Sams; nieces, Cindy (Terry) Fout, and Sandy Swigert; and special friends, Bob and Marilyn Crabtree, Ken and Carol Roush, and Blanche Michael.
