WCH Board of Ed Candidates Speak on Teacher Retention

Candidates for Washington Court House City School Board have expressed their views on the problem of retaining teachers.

Current Board member and candidate Ken Upthegrove says housing is a big issue. "When they're paying $600 to $700 per month rent, plus their college debt, and a vehicle; all those things add up. It makes it tougher for them to stay here when they can go to Columbus and make as much as $10,000 more a year."

But, candidate John Minyo says it's not just about the money. "I think the first thing we need to do is emphasize that's it's not always about the money. "We have to create an environment that makes teachers want to be here."

General Election Day is Tuesday, November 7th.
