The second week of the 2013 football season and for the seven South Central Ohio League teams resumes Friday night.
WILMINGTON AT MIAMI TRACE (Buckeye Country 105.5FM)
Miami Trace will try to start the season at 2-0 for first time since 2008 when they host the Hurricanes. Miami Trace is coming off a 42-26 win over Circleville after scoring twice in the last 5 minutes of the contest. Jimmy Stroker had 137 yards rushing with Trevor Haines chipping in 75 yards on the ground & 2 scores. Last win by Trace over Wilmington was in the 2008 season when Trace was awarded a 1-0 forfeit win.
Wilmington who has won 4 games in a row over Miami Trace since this series resumed in 2006, won last year 26-21 on a Zach Day TD run with 31 seconds left in the game. Wilmington is coming off a loss at Washington CH. Wilmington trailed going into the 4th period but scored 14 points to get close but still lost a 35-28 decision.
WASHINGTON CH AT CIRCLEVILLE
The Blue Lions got their 1st game of the season win last week---their first since the 2010 season---by holding off a late Wilmington charge & also with a 213 yards rushing performance by Tye Smith. Smith had four scores in the game. Last week opening week wins by both the Panthers & the Blue Lions was the first time that has happen since the 2001 season. A win this Friday by Washington over Circleville would give the Fayette County schools a sweep for the 3rd time in the last 5 years (2009-2011) over the Tigers.
The Tigers snapped the Blue Lions three game win streak against them last year with a 42-21 win. David Burroughs with a TD pass & TD run in that contest. Last week against Miami Trace, Burroughs has 2 TD passes to Justin Hill as the two combined for 178 yards in passing. Burroughs also added 84 of the Tigers 112 yards on the ground.
GOSHEN AT HILLSBORO
Last year Goshen took advantage of 2 Hillsboro turnovers & scored 14 points in the 2nd quarter to take a 21-7 halftime lead. That was more than enough to help Goshen to go on to 41-7 win over the Indians. Goshen lost their season opener last week to Ross by a 42-7 score. They gave up 473 yards in offense & had only 118 yards themselves.
Hillsboro is coming off a loss to Western Brown & will try to regroup & snap their 11 game losing streak. Toby Warrington had the only score in last week defeat. Hillsboro has lost the first 2 games of this non-conference series against Goshen.
CHILLICOTHE AT BIG WALNUT (1490 WBEX/92.7FM)
Nate Rosenbauer scored on 2 TD runs and had 90 yards rushing as the Cavaliers defeated Johnstown last Friday. All the scoring for Chilly in the 20-7 win came in the 4th quarter. The Johnnies were held to 110 yards in offense.
Big Walnut lost to Mansfield Senior last week 28-7. The team had only 174 yards in offense while giving up 362 yards. Big Walnut has won four games in a row in this series and six of their seven meetings.
McCLAIN AT UNIOTO
McClain has won 6 games in a row in the series vs. Sherman's. Last week McClain rolled in the 2nd half using mostly a rushing attack & defeated another SVC member school---Adena. Greenfield had 245 of their 360 yards on the ground. Thom Schrader threw for a score, ran for 2 more & picked off an Adena pass on defense.
Unioto was held to 144 yards in offense in their lost last Friday to Vinton County. Of that total 107 came thru the air. They gave up 345 yards in offense & was whistled for 95 yards in penalties.
CLINTON-MASSIE AT WAYNESVILLE
The Falcons ended up with a short week by not playing till Sunday night but they rolled in their win over Blanchester on Sunday. Chase Wolfe had 189 yards rushing & scored 3 times. Hunter Fentress at quarterback added 2 TD passes & ran for another.
Waynesville defeated Massie 2 years ago by a 17-2 score. They been off since last Thursday after defeating Cincinnati Country Day 28-7. Troy Black threw for 169 yards & 2 TDs in the team's win.
EAST CLINTON AT BLANCHESTER
These two former Southern Buckeye Conference foes meet again in non-league play after both came off losses last week. East Clinton will try to bounce back after a lost on Saturday to Ada. Dalton Floyd threw for 110 yards & 2 TDs in the team's 35-19 loss at home. The Astros have won 4 games in a row in this series against Blanchester before last year's 26-21 loss.
Blanchester with Sunday 63-7 loss vs. Clinton-Massie will attempt to come back & even their record. Blanchester got behind 14-0 in first 8 minutes of the game against the Falcons. Two of their 3 turnovers were turned into Falcons scores.
