The Clinton Massie Falcons return to northeastern Ohio for 2nd year in a row to play in the Division 4 State Finals. The SCOL & Region 14 champions (13-1) will meet Youngstown Mooney (10-4 & Region 11 champs) this Friday at 3pm at Paul Brown Stadium in Massillon, Ohio.
The contest will air on Buckeye Country & I Heart Radio starting at 2:35pm with Stew Gardner & Roger Barber.
Massie is coming off a come from behind win over top rank Kenton last Friday by a 21-20 score as the Wolfe brothers combined for over 280 yards & all three TDs for the Falcons. Mooney arrives after a convincing 37-7 win over the Big Red of Steubenville.
Mooney is led by the dual running attack of C.J. Amill & Mark Handel both with over 1,200 yards each rushing. Quarterback Jon Saadey doesn't run much (about 300 yards) but has thrown for 12 scores & almost 1,400 yards.
Offensively the Cardinals are averaging about 27 points a contest but giving up about 19 a game as they have given up over 40 points in each of their 4 losses this season.
Clinton Massie is led by Southwest District Offensive Player of the Year Bayle Wolfe who in 14 games has rushed for almost 1,800 yards & scored 29 TDs. In his career he has over 5,200 yards in offense & has scored 98 of his 108 career touchdowns on the ground. Brother Chayse who scored twice in last week win over Kenton has rushed for over 1,350 yards & 20 TDs this season going into Friday finals.
Massie is averaging over 40 points a game (Including 5 games of scoring 52 points or more) & giving up only 9.8 points a contest including four shutout wins & not giving up more than 21 points to an opponent all season.
Clinton-Massie is 1 of 5 teams that are defending their state championships this weekend.
