A group of volunteers is into its third year of feeding the hungry. Hilda Harper said the Backpack Program volunteers meet up at the Gregg Street Worship Center in Washington CH and pack up supplies for children in the Miami Trace School District.
"We send food home on weekends to the children that are in need," said Harper. "It's two lunches, two breakfasts, two snacks, two drinks, and whatever else we can throw in there."
Miami Trace Elementary School Principal Julie Reisinger said children benefiting through this program are very appreciative: "They say 'thank you' when they come to get their backpacks, and they look forward to it."
Harper said the program is funded by donations, which can be mailed or dropped off at 424 Gregg Street in Washington Court House.
"Monetary is really the best because we try to give every child the same thing," said Harper.
She added no contribution is too small.
